The importance of writing
Writing is one of the most important skills you can learn in today’s world. You will need it in almost any job if you want to be successful because of how much it is used. Even if you are not ready for a job and want to continue schooling, you are going to want to be able to write for all the assignments you will have. You will even have to know it if you want to go online and not be made fun of by a grammar nazi on almost any site that requires writing. Writing in today’s world is continuing to be more important because of how often people use it so you better not fall too far behind.Three of some of the most important reasons to be good at writing is for jobs, school, and the internet.
You are going to need a job to live happily in this world and almost all jobs require writing. Writing can be so important that improper use of writing can get a person fined or fired from their job. Stealing someone’s work on accident is just as illegal as stealing it by accident from improper citing. Learning how to do proper citing is one of the best skills I learned in this class. Hopefully it will keep me from making this big mistake in a future job I could have. If I were to do important citing this could lead to me losing a job or have hefty fines that I would rather not have to pay for. Another useful part of writing I learned about that can help me in jobs is proper use of commas. I was never to good at using commas, however this class has helped me with them. In the workforce, using commas improperly can lead to information getting mixed up. Without a proper comma, the reader may read information wrong and lead to a person getting a situation mixed with something else and it would look bad for me if I am the one who wrote it. Even just making a paper sound better with a few commas can make it easier for someone to read my work and possibly make them a little happier with it. Proper writing will make my life easier in the workforce and hopefully better.
Some information I have learned in this class will also help me with future classes I may have. Some which is the same with the job area like citing. I would not like being at risk of being expelled because I cited something wrong. However there is a lot more information I can use in future classes than just that. Proper structuring will help immensely and is something I am trying to get better at. Sometimes when I would structure an essay in the past it looked quite bad. Sometimes I would put information where it most certainly should not have been and it would make it sound weird. With this class it helped remind me of how to keep my essays more structured in this class. I would make sure I did not jump from fact to fact carelessly like I used to. It would look bad if I went from describing my environment to talking about my family’s events in the location without separating the two. That kind of writing can easily confuse a reader and lead to them not wanting to read the paper at all. Another step I need to work on is reviewing. I almost never would review my work in the past and just turn in my work hoping it would turn out fine. Reviewing my work would have made many of my papers in the past end up being way better. My word choice still needs to get better. I constantly still use too many common words or use a word too many times which does not help. Doing this can lead to my teacher’s losing interest in what I am writing about if I use a word fifteen or more times in a paragraph. All my teachers always say when I am writing to a person that the reader should feel invested into reading the paper. If I continue to work on word choice, it will heavily help me when writing to specific people, and in my case, to the teacher.
Like a lot of people I know, I too use the internet a lot. One thing that people use the internet for is talking to other people. I use facebook and other social websites a lot and it can be embarrassing to have bad writing on them. This is more where sentence structure, spelling, and other minor but important writing topics come more into play. I think it can be fun to write on the internet to test your skills because there will always be someone to critique you. A major topic people will go after you on is run-on sentences. It can be easy to get distracted and go on and on with a sentence to the point where it becomes too long. Having run-on sentence and disrupt a flow of an essay or just make it sound terrible when reading out loud. Having run-on sentences can also cause readers to get information mixed together which is something that you would not want.
All the information I have taken in from this class I will continue to use from a job to posting on facebook. These small topics I learned will probably help me the most because to an extent they are the most used. I will hopefully continue to get better at some of these topics like using commas in the future and continue to sharpen my skills.
